Overview
Intelligent Layouts generates page layouts unique to each user by selecting from an arrangement of available placements that are configured to the content structure of your site.
Rules and configurations can be applied to increase or decrease the level of dynamism and flexibility.
Page layouts are grouped into Areas, with applicable placements being chosen by the algorithms to return dynamic ordering of placements as well as the games contained within each.
Creating a New Layout
From the Intelligent Layouts menu page, click "Add New Layout":
This will take you to the Layouts editor where you can create global settings for the layout:
Name the layout appropriately in the Layout Name Field
Dedupe logic. This feature will ensure that the top N items from each placement are unique and not replicated across other placements in the layout, solving the problem of duplicated games across multiple areas of a given page. In the example shown above, the first 6 games from each placement will always be unique. Select None to disable de-duplication
Cache Time (secs) - this setting preserves the layout of the page from being altered for this amount of time. For reference, 86400 seconds is equivalent to 24 hours. Opti-X recommends at least 1 day of caching for Intelligent Layouts.
Add New Area and Placement
With global settings finalized, we are ready to add a new area to the layout. To do this, click anywhere within the Add New Area box.
Create a custom name in the Area Name input. It is important to use a consistent naming convention when creating a layout for tracking and deployment purposes.
In the example above, we are adding a placement into the first area, and will always render this placement first on the layout.
Two further settings need to be made and they shall align to Min and Max setting with placement.
-
Min placements - defines the minimum number of placements to be returned in this area.
-
Max placements - defines the maximum number of placements to be returned in this area.
For instance, if you add five placements and set the minimum to two and the maximum to three, then the area will show at least two placements and at most three, selected from the five added.
Placement Settings
Additionally, each placement has a Min/Max setting, indicating how many times you want that specific placement to appear in the area. Setting a placement’s minimum to one ensures it will definitely appear, while the maximum controls its upper limit in the selection
Min and Max: Define the number of times a placement should appear in the area. Setting both these values to 1 ensures the placement will always appear for each user.
Subtitle: An additional descriptive text option for managing placement taxonomy within the layout. This field can also be used to enable Explanation Tags to dynamically generate personalized titles for placements.
Dummy: By clicking the dummy button to green, the layout will return a placeholder that can be used to render non-Opti-X content (e.g., a fixed game container or bingo slider). In this case, name the placement appropriately and communicate the dummy placeholder to the development team managing the front-end implementation.
Once all the settings are complete, click the tick icon to finalize and save.
Add more Areas and Placements to your Layout as needed.
Using Explanation Tags
Explanation tags allow for dynamic title generation (e.g., "Because you liked [Game Name]") in Intelligent Layouts. This feature is currently limited to the Favorite Game method in the gaming vertical.
Key Requirements:
- The user must have played at least one game more than once.
- Explanation tags will not be displayed if a specific theme or game is already selected in the placement's tag rules. If conditions aren't met, a fallback recommendation will be shown instead.
How to Set Up:
- Click to edit the placement you wish to configure.
- In the Subtitle field, enter your desired text and include one of the following tags:
{explanation.game.game_name}- Displays the name of the user's favorite game.{explanation.game.game_theme}- Displays the theme of the user's favorite game.{explanation.game.game_theme|default value}- Provides a fallback text if a theme is not found (e.g.,{explanation.game.game_theme|these}).
- Save your settings.
Example:
- Subtitle Input:
Because you enjoy {explanation.game.game_theme} games - Potential Output for a User: "Because you enjoy Irish-themed games"
Discover
Opti-X comes with in-built attribution analytics as standard which can be filtered to view use case trends and performance. Scroll to the bottom of your analytics and export to either PDF or Excel for fast and easy analysis. Navigate to Discover from the Intelligent Layouts Menu.
Discover shows page views, games shown, unique customers, and turnover uplift (where the data is available.).
Discover Layouts Metrics are split via Filter by Layout and by Placement.
When selecting a Layout from Filter a bubble chart will showcase the following Metrics: Page Views, Total Conversions, and Total Games. This allows you to view the performance of your layout and what is preferred by users. 1 is the top position.
Layouts Viewer
Once a placement is configured and saved, the output can be checked in real-time by navigating to the Layouts Viewer, found in the Intelligent Layouts Menu
First, choose a layout from the drop-down menu, then enter a real user id into the User Key box.
Finally, click View to see the output for any given user.
