🎯 Note: To use this functionality, you need to either have your Optimove Target Groups synced to the Opti-X platform, or prepare your target groups using request parameters, as explained in the article How to Create Target Groups with Request Parameters.
Target Groups
Target Groups are currently available for use in Placements to configure your placements to each Target Group's needs.
By default, an 'All' tab is created, meaning the configuration will affect all your users. To add Target Group configurations, click the 'plus' tab.
A new tab will be created, initially selecting the first available Target Group from the list. However, you can change this selection by picking a required value from the dropdown.
Target groups are applied to your website's users based on the order you define in the placements. You can adjust the priority of target groups by dragging and dropping the tabs.
For instance, the current order implies that users are first checked against the 'High Spend Users' group. If the conditions are met, they belong to this group. If not, the system checks if they belong to the 'English-speaking users' group. Users who do not meet any conditions will automatically fall into the 'All' group.
Please Note: However, if you choose, you can delete the 'All' group, leading these users to encounter empty recommendations.
You have the flexibility to configure your placement for as many Target Groups as you desire. Each Target group could be treated with separate methods, constraints and rules.
Control Group
Your control group rules apply to all target groups configured for your placement.
Here you can activate or de-activate the control group for your placement. By default, the percentage is set to 10% and the Split method is 'Random', but you can adjust it as needed.
The split method is the way how your control group is defined. There are 4 options:
-
Random (We recommend selecting it)
-
User IDs end in 0 (e.g.: 1234560, approximately 10% of the control group)
-
Even userIDs (e.g.: 1234560, approximately 50% of the control group)
-
Odd userIDs (e.g.: 1234561, approximately 50% of the control group)
The percentage value won’t be available if you choose options ‘User IDs end in 0', ‘Even userIDs’, 'Odd userIDs’.
The control group will not receive any recommendations. You can compare their results with the 'test' group, which will receive recommendations. We advise always to have a control group for your placements. The recommended range for your control group is 10-50%. A smaller or bigger control group increases the risk of biased results.
Other Notes:
-
If you change the control group, the system will rearrange users in this control group from the date you made a change. It can take us up to 5 minutes to apply your changes.
-
The control group percentage will apply to all users who see the placement, regardless of how many times they see it.
-
The Opti-X Team currently generates reports on request. We're actively working to automate reporting for a seamless, self-service experience.

Control Variant

You will have the option to configure a method, constraints, and tag rules for your control group, along with other placement settings.
If you want to remove the control variant configuration, simply click on 'Remove configuration'. After that, your control group will receive empty recommendations.
