This article answers common questions about the QA Center, test groups, and testing templates with Smart Preview. It's for marketers who check personalized templates before a campaign goes out. To get started, see Introduction to the QA Center and How to Create and Manage Test Groups.
Test Groups
How many customers can a test group hold?
Up to 10 customer IDs. Choose customers that each cover a different case, such as one per VIP tier, rather than several from the same segment.
Can I use any customer ID?
The ID must belong to a customer in your account. Each ID is checked as you enter it and marked Valid or Invalid, and the group can't be saved while any ID is Invalid.
Does a test group change who receives my campaign?
No. Test groups are used only for previewing and testing. They don't target, include, or exclude anyone in a campaign.
What happens if the test group I'm previewing is deleted?
The preview switches back to Random Customer ID. Deleting a test group can't be undone, so create it again with the same customers if you still need it.
Smart Preview and Send Test
I don't see the Test Group option when I preview a template. Why?
The option appears when the QA Center is enabled for your account. If you can open the QA Center but don't see Test Group in Smart Preview, contact your Customer Success Manager (CSM).
Can I send a test email to everyone in a test group?
No. Send Test sends one email at a time, to one address, using the data of the customer you're previewing. To check several customers in an inbox, step to each one in Smart Preview and send a test for each.
Which channels can I preview with a test group?
All of them. Test groups work in Smart Preview for every channel it previews, including email, SMS, push, and in-app messages. For what each channel's preview shows, see Previewing and Testing Templates with Smart Preview.
