Learn how to seamlessly integrate OptiText with Twilio, one of our trusted SMS partners, to send SMS and MMS campaigns. This guide walks you through configuring settings in both the Optimove and Twilio interfaces.
For more details on Twilio’s SMS capabilities, visit their SMS documentation.
Prerequisites
- A Twilio account with access to the Twilio Console.
- An Optimove account with permissions to configure SMS settings.
- At least one active phone number in your Twilio account.
If you have questions about the following steps, please get in touch with your Customer Success Manager.
Configuring Your Twilio-Optimove Integration
To configure your Twilio integration with Optimove, you’ll need to apply changes in both the Optimove UI and the Twilio Console.
In the Optimove UI
Navigate to the Settings area in Optimove and select SMS Config under OptiText.
Click the cog icon associated with Twilio to access the configuration details.
Complete the three fields on the left-hand side in the SMS configuration panel. The Current Configuration panel on the right will display details only if you’ve previously configured your SMS implementation.
Account SID
The Account SID directs the OptiText integration to the correct Twilio endpoints. This 34-character alphanumeric identifier begins with “AC” and is found on the Twilio Console dashboard.
Log in to the Twilio Console, copy the Account SID from the dashboard, and paste it into the OptiText configuration settings.
For more details or to find a subaccount SID, see Twilio’s Account SID documentation.
Auth Token
The Auth Token serves as the password for your Account SID (the username). Together, they determine the account used for sending campaigns and collecting engagement data.
Find the Auth Token in the Account Info pane of the Twilio Console dashboard. Click Show to reveal the token, then copy and paste it into the OptiText configuration settings.
Note: The Auth Token is hidden by default. Use the Show and Hide options to manage visibility.
From Number
The From Number is the primary number for sending SMS messages. In the Twilio Console, you can view all numbers associated with your Twilio account by navigating to Phone Numbers > Manage > Active Numbers.
Copy the desired number and paste it into the OptiText configuration settings.
MMS Settings
The above configuration also enables MMS messaging. Keep in mind that MMS costs more than SMS, and you can check its pricing in your Twilio Portal.
Note: Currently, MMS is only supported via Twilio for campaigns in the United States and Canada.
Callback URL Configuration
All numbers purchased with Twilio must be configured with a Callback URL to allow customers to opt out.
In the Twilio Console, navigate to Phone Numbers > Manage > Active Numbers, select the number to configure, and go to the Configure tab. Scroll to the bottom and paste the Callback URL from the Optimove Twilio Integration screen into the A message comes in and Primary handler URL fields. Set both to Webhook and HTTP POST.
Note: Ensure the Callback URL matches the brand associated with the number to allow customers to opt out correctly.
Troubleshooting Common Issues
- Invalid Account SID or Auth Token: Verify that credentials are copied exactly from the Twilio Console without extra spaces.
- Callback URL Not Working: Confirm the URL matches the one in the Optimove Twilio Integration screen and is set to HTTP POST.
- MMS Not Sending: Ensure your Twilio account is configured for MMS and the recipient’s number is in the US or Canada.
