Creating an OptiText Template

Please note: 

To unlock this capability, you will need to have added OptiText to your Optimove package. If you can’t see this feature in your Optimove instance, contact your CSM to find out more. 

 

 
You can design and save templates that can be re-used when you and your team are sending SMS messages via Optimove. 
 

Working with Templates

In order to create, view and manage your existing SMS templates, navigate to the Templates section under Plan in the left navigation.
 
 
To view or edit an existing template, simply click on that template and it will be shown in the preview on the right-hand side.
 
If you make any edits to your existing templates, remember to click 'Save' when done or click 'Cancel' to discard your changes.
 
Here you can also duplicate a template by clicking on this symbol, next to the template name:
Or, to delete a custom template, simply click this symbol, next to the template name:
 

SMS Template Content

As you add content to the notification you can preview how the notification will look on a user's device. By default, the preview shows how the notification will look when it arrives on an iPhone.

Click the Android tab to see how the notification will look when it arrives on an Android phone.
 

Personalization

In your text, you can also add Customer Attributes to personalize the message. To learn more about how to create and use personalization tags learn more here, or find out how to add Conditional Language here. Click on the Personalization Tags icon Screen for your customer data and content functions personalization tags, and click on the Conditional Language icon Screen to add a new condition.

Short Links

As part of your SMS message, it’s advisable to always include a short link to help customers get to the relevant area of your website or mobile app.

You can add links to your SMS messages, and Optimove will automatically shorten them.

Simply click on the Link icon Screen, enter your desired URL, and a short link will be added to your message.

Please note:

  1. By using the link shortening tool, your link will be formatted as "https://optxt.net/1234" where the 1234 is a unique set of numbers, unique to each individual user.
  2. If you add your own URL directly to the SMS template, you will not be able to collect click metrics. Clicks are only tracked on links added via the native link-shortening tool. 
 

Emojis

You can add emojis to your SMS messages in order to make your content more engaging. Simply click on the Emoji icon Screen and choose from the standard set of emojis available.

Template Length

When creating your SMS template, please be aware that the maximum number of characters for a single SMS message is 160. We would recommend keeping messages shorter than this, as the length of each message may also vary depending on the recipient-specific data when using personalization tags.
 

Please note:

If you include any emojis or other unicode, the character limit for your SMS messages changes to 70. The character count in the SMS template builder will update to reflect this when you are building your template.

 
However, we do not limit the number of characters that can be included in an SMS template, and templates with additional characters will simply result in additional messages being sent to the recipient. For example, a message with 400 characters could result in 3 individual SMS messages being sent to the recipient.
 

MMS

You also have the ability to add media to your OptiText template, to turn it into an MMS. 

To do so, simply click on Add Image in the template builder.

From here, you can select an image from your Library, upload a new image, or search from stock images via Unsplash. Once you have the image you'd like to use, click on it, and confirm by clicking the ✅ icon.

The Template Editor supports PNG, JPEG, and GIF files up to 1 MB in size. For optimal display, MMS images should have an aspect ratio of 1:1 (square) or 9:16 (portrait) and a maximum resolution of 640x1138. If your image is too big or doesn't fit the required ratio, you will not be able to save the template until you add a suitable image. 

Please note:

  • To benefit from MMS, you need to have configured your From Number to be able to send this type of message. This can be done via your SMS aggregator. If you are unsure, please contact your SMS aggregator's CSM to find out more. 
  • MMS are only supported in Canada and the United States.
