Channel Metrics
Sent
- Definition: The number of unique customers in the selected Target Group who were targeted to receive the embedded message.
- Calculation: Count of distinct customers who meet the Target Group criteria.
Delivered
- Definition: The number of delivery events that occurred when messages were pulled from Optimove's server. This happens when customers open the Inbox component or when using the "getMessages" API.
- Calculation: Cumulative count of delivery events across all days in the reporting period. Each time a customer opens their Inbox on a different day counts as a separate delivery event.
- Note: If the same customer opens their inbox on multiple days, each day generates a new delivery event (e.g., 3 days = three delivery events).
Opened
- Definition: The number of open events when customers viewed the message (message appeared in the viewport/above the fold). This happens when opening the Inbox component and scrolling to bring the message into view, or by using the "Metrics" API.
- Calculation: Cumulative count of open events across all days in the reporting period. Each time a customer views the message on a different day counts as a separate open event.
- Note: Multiple viewing sessions across different days will increment the opened count.
Clicked
- Definition: The number of click events that occurred when customers clicked on an actionable message (messages with a URL or call-to-action).
- Calculation: Cumulative count of click events across all days in the reporting period.
- Note: Multiple click events by the same customer across different days are counted separately.
Understanding Embedded Messaging Metrics
Unlike email campaigns, where each message is typically delivered once, and interactions occur within a short time window, Embedded Messaging metrics aggregate cumulatively because messages persist in the customer's inbox and can be accessed repeatedly over extended periods.
Key Differences
- Embedded messages persist in the inbox and can be accessed repeatedly, unlike emails, which are delivered once.
- Metrics accumulate over time; each day a customer interacts with a message generates new metric events.
- Reported numbers reflect total engagement events, not unique customers (with the exception of the "Sent" metric).
Example Scenario
Consider a campaign sent to a Target Group of 1,000 customers that runs for 5 days:
- Sent: 1,000 (unique customers targeted)
- Delivered: 2,500 delivery events (customers opened their inbox on multiple days)
- Opened: 1,800 open events (customers viewed messages across multiple sessions)
- Clicked: 400 click events (customers clicked on messages across multiple days)
This means that while 1,000 customers were targeted, the 2,500 delivery events indicate that customers accessed their inboxes repeatedly over the 5 days.
