After you have created a container, the next step is to design the content that will be displayed within it. You do this by creating an Embedded Message Template. This guide will walk you through using the Custom UI Template Editor to build your message.
As you add content, you can see a live preview of how it will look on a user's desktop or mobile device.
Before You Begin
You must have already created an Embedded Message Container. If you have not done so, please see the article on Creating and Managing Embedded Message Containers first.
Template Content Fields
When you create a new template, you will be presented with several fields to build your message.
- Title (Optional): The main headline for your message.
- Body (Optional): The main text content of your message. The body is limited to 500 characters.
- Add Image (Optional): You can toggle this on to add an image to your message. You can upload PNG, JPEG, or GIF files up to 10MB.
Message Settings
-
Set Expiration Date (Required): An expiration date is mandatory for all messages. You can set the message to expire after a specific number of days (maximum 90 days) or on a fixed date and time in the customer's timezone. All messages are automatically deleted after 90 days.
- For triggered campaigns, if you set expiration by a specific date that has already passed, the customer will not receive the message.
- If you set expiration by a number of days, the countdown begins when the message is triggered.
- Create Click Action (Optional): You can add a URL that the message will open when a user clicks on it.
Advanced Options
- Personalization: You can add user attributes to personalize the Title, Body, and Open URL fields. To do this, click the [+] button next to a field and select 'Personalization'.
- Custom Payload: You can add custom data to your message as key-value pairs. This is useful for sending arbitrary metadata to your app, which can be used to style the message or trigger custom logic.
The Custom UI Template Editor has several key differences:
- The preview is a Web Preview, not an inbox view.
- Image layout options are irrelevant, as styling is handled by your app.
- Message validation requires that the message is not empty.
