A flat list of missions asks every player to pick a starting point. A progression path tells them what to do next.
Participation Criteria are prerequisites that a player must meet before they can start making progress on a mission. Where Segment-Specific Activity controls who a mission is for, Participation Criteria gates a mission behind what the player has already achieved in Loyalty — letting you build progression paths instead of a flat list of offers.
This guide will walk you through setting Participation Criteria on a mission, from choosing a criteria type to activating the mission.
Criteria Types
| Criteria Type | What the player must have done |
|---|---|
| Level | Reached at least a given level. |
| Mission | Completed another mission first. This is how you build mission chains (A → B → C). |
| Badge | Earned a specific badge. |
What Players See
A mission the player doesn't yet qualify for appears locked in the widget, together with the specific unmet requirements — "Level 5 required", "Mission A required", or "Badge X required". Once all criteria are met, the mission unlocks, and the player can begin making progress. A prerequisite mission can also advertise what it unlocks, making the path forward visible before the player reaches it.
How to Set Participation Criteria
Open the Mission
- Navigate to Optimove Loyalty → Missions.
- Click + New Mission, or open an existing mission to edit it.
Add the Unlock Criteria
- Go to the mission's Unlock Criteria step.
- Click + Add Criteria Type and choose Level, Mission, or Badge.
- Select the specific requirement — for example, the "First Deposit" mission as a prerequisite.
- Repeat to add more criteria. All of them must be met before the mission unlocks.
Save & Activate
Click Save & Activate.
The mission stays locked for any player who hasn't met all of its criteria, and unlocks automatically the moment they do.
