By default, any player who reaches your Minigames (formerly Adact) campaign can play it. Target Group Selection lets you restrict a campaign to players who belong to one or more of your Optimove Target Groups, so only your intended audience — VIPs, a specific region, or a loyalty tier — can participate.
This guide will walk you through how to limit a Minigames campaign to specific Target Groups and how to customize the message shown to players who don't qualify.
Prerequisite: Making Your Target Group Available
Selecting a Target Group in the dropdown doesn't automatically make it usable — behind the scenes, Minigames needs an active triggered campaign wrapping that Target Group before it can evaluate whether a CID belongs to it.
If you don't have one yet, set up a dummy always-on triggered campaign:
-
Create a trigger that won't actually fire — e.g. a
page_visitevent pointing at a URL that doesn't exist.
Full instructions: Managing Triggers -
Create a triggered campaign in Campaign Builder:
- Target group & trigger: select the Target Group you want to use in Minigames, and the trigger from step 1. Any option (or none) works for "Measure increase in."
- Scheduling: set Recurrence to Always On, repeat every 1 day, ending Never.
- Execution details: pick any non-engaging channel (e.g. Other / Call Centre) so the campaign never actually sends anything. Remove the control group.

How to Restrict a Campaign to a Target Group
Step 1: Open your Publishing Settings
- Open your campaign and navigate to the Publishing → Publishing Settings tab.
- Locate the Optimove Target Group field. This is a searchable, multi-select field, pre-populated with every Target Group you have already created in Optimove.
- Select one or more Target Groups.
Step 2: Customize the Error Message
Players who don't belong to the selected Target Group(s) see an error message instead of the game. You can edit this message.
- Navigate to Landing Page → Extras → Errors.
- Edit the message shown to players who don't qualify.
How Target Group Selection Works
When a player arrives at the page where the minigame loads, their Customer ID (CID) is checked against the Target Group(s) you selected:
- Match: the game loads normally.
- No match: the player sees your error message instead of the game.
