A Seed List is a list of internal emails to which you send a copy of your emails simultaneously to the sending of an email campaign to your customers.
Use them to proofread your template and make sure there are no broken links or any other issues.
You can also use Seed Lists to track delivery times, review the delivered message on various email platforms or simply to keep co-workers in the loop.
To add a Seed List, contact your CSM.
Watch this video for a walkthrough:
- Any deliverability metrics that are correlated with these email addresses will be excluded from campaign analysis results.
- If the template contains personalization tags or conditional language, they will be populated with random customer data.
- In order to create a seed list, provide your CSM with the name of the seed list you wish to create, and the email addresses that the list should include.
- With enabling 'Send by local time', you may receive the seed list email one hour before or after the correct time.

Whereas test lists and addresses are the addresses you send your emails to before you deploy an email campaign to your live audience in an effort to proofread text and confirm proper links, your seed list and addresses are the ones you send to once the campaign is deployed live regardless if they qualify for the target group criteria – helping to ensure that the campaign was sent properly and confirming the template rendered properly on send outside of the test environment.
Seed lists are great to include on your campaign sends because they help to ensure deliverability by engaging with your campaign and also confirm receipt of the campaign once it’s been sent. When creating your seed list, we recommend a list of real addresses linked to real people from multiple domains. Making sure the users on your seed list are aware of their inclusion is important so that they are more likely to open and click through when they do receive their email.
Adding a seed list to your campaign is easy and you’ll do this when setting up the campaign in the Campaign Builder. To create a seed list or multiple seed lists to be added to your site, first speak with your CSM. Your CSM will work with you to collect the list of email addresses for each seed list and create your seed lists for use.
When scheduling your campaigns in OptiMail, you’ll continue in the Campaign Builder as you normally have, however, once you reach the OptiMail Options screen where you select your Brand, template and time of day for your send, you now also have the option to select your seed list.
Using the drop-down menu select from the seed lists your CSM has added to your account to be added to the campaign for sending. Select “Done” when complete.
When your campaign deploys, both your target group audience and your seed list will receive your campaign as scheduled.
