Custom Development
The following scenarios can be supported by our team through Custom Development:
Geo-Targeted for a Subscriber-Based Experience
By leveraging ISP and mobile geo-targeting, the component can automatically display the local weather, based on a user's location at the time of open, and this can change dynamically if the user moves. For example, a user in NYC will see the NYC forecast, while a user in Detroit will see the forecast for Detroit. If the NYC user boards a plane to Detroit, the forecast automatically updates if the email is reopened in Detroit. Some email clients use image caching, which limits the dynamic geo-targeting capability; those users will see a default weather forecast.
Date-Specific Forecast
A custom weather component can be built by the DynamicMail team to display the weather for a specific pre-defined future date, instead of choosing the number of future days whose forecast should be displayed. That date's forecast will be updated leading up to it and remain accurate afterward as well. This can also be built to include a few days (such as a weekend). The date can be populated for each user via merge tag/personalization string, with the weather reflecting the relevant date.
Weather-Targeted Images
The component can be configured to display weather-related images appropriate for the forecast at the time and location of open, based on predefined weather images for each forecast category. For example, if the forecast is 70°F or above, an image of sandals and sunglasses could appear; if the forecast is 50°F or below, the user would see gloves and jackets. Because some email clients use image caching that limits the geo-targeting capability, those users will see a default image.
Recommendations
You can choose to display between 3-9 days of the forecasted weather. Because long-term forecasts can be less accurate, we do recommend using a shorter-term forecast.
Fallback Behavior
There is no fallback for this component since it is fully supported. For the list of components and their supporting ESPs, click here.
