Please note:
To unlock this capability, you will need to have added DynamicMail to your Optimove package. If you can’t see this feature in your Optimove instance, contact your CSM to find out more.
How many of your users are reading, glancing, or ignoring your emails? Add our tracking pixel to every email campaign to gain access to our "time in email" metric and use it to refine your campaigns and improve engagement.
Gain additional insights into opens by time, location, and device. Here’s an example of the type of results you can get using the tracker. Note that results are based on a statistical sample of the recipients, and not on a per-user level.
Settings Configuration
To set up the “Engagement Tracker”:
- Go to "Create Component"
- Choose “Engagement Tracker”
- Give your newly created component a unique name.
- Fill out the rest of the details, including:
- Deployment Identifier
The Deployment Identifier field may be used to differentiate traffic from different email sends and templates by using a personalization tag from your ESP like [%TEMPLATE_ID%] or [%CAMPAIGN_ID%]. After your email is sent, when reviewing the component statistics, you can filter by this DPID value. - User Identifier
The User Identifier field may be used to receive reporting on a customer level by using a personalization tag from your ESP like [%CUSTOMER_ID%].
- Deployment Identifier
- Generate the pixel component and place the generated snippet code at the top of your email.
- Input your email address under “Email Test” to send yourself an email with the component.
- Check back in the Creator after a send to see reporting details.
Common Use Cases
Use this component for email A/B testing or to measure engagement/time in email as a success metric.
Custom Development
The following use cases can be supported with the help of Custom Development by our team:
User location tracking
The pixel can be customized and used to track the user's location when the email has been opened. Using merge tags/personalization strings of a unique user identifier and deployment identifier will allow Optimove to provide detailed user-level data such as zip code, city, or state for each email open.
Recommendations
- Fill in both the "Deployment Identifier" and "User Identifier" fields to gather more data on your users and your email sends.
- When testing dynamic email content versus a static control, we recommend placing the engagement pixel in both emails to enable comparing engagement metrics between the two emails.
- Since the engagement tracking is a 1x1 transparent pixel, it will not track clicks.
- “Time in email” is not supported in Outlook. All other statistics are supported.
Fallback Behavior
There is no fallback for this component since it is fully supported.

Troubleshooting
I’m not seeing any clicks on the reports for the engagement pixel
The pixel is a 1x1 transparent pixel that is only able to track email opens.
Tracking clicks is only possible when using components that include a link, for example, Dynamic CTA.
I don’t see any opens reporting even though I put the pixel in an email
Send an email to dmsupport@optimove.com with the HTML of the email that includes the pixel. The pixel may have not been implemented properly, and we can help in troubleshooting.
