Common Use Cases
Custom Development
The following scenarios can be supported by our team through Custom Development:
Heavy Concentration Listing
For areas with a heavy concentration of addresses, the DynamicMail team can create a custom image that lists the largest or most popular locations versus the closest (same as above).
It's possible to show multiple locations on one map.
Enhanced Logic
Optimove can utilize personalization tags to first target users. If there is no known location, we will use IP address to determine the nearest location.
Recommendations
- The uploaded image size to serve as the location pin should be between 30x30 pixels and 50x50 pixels.
- Please note that the system does not resize the icons--whatever size they are when uploaded is the size they will appear.
- We recommend creating a custom graphic for dense urban locations with multiple stores within a 20-mile radius.
- The geo-location used in this component is based on the geo-IP address provided by the recipient's Internet Service Provider (ISP); It is possible that the ISP's registered geo-location is not the same as the individual's location. In such cases, a custom graphic for dense locations will be more accurate.
- When the recipient opens the email, the component will run an algorithm that attempts to grab a valid IP address to determine the user's current location. Optimove will get the geo-location data from a database we host locally on our servers. That information is then correlated with the data entered in the Creator (the address, zip codes, etc.), and the closest location will be displayed on the map.
- The images are accurate for recipients more than 20 miles away with an 85% accuracy rate in the United States. Please get in touch for accuracy rates in other countries.
Fallback Behavior
A default location/image is set to ensure everyone sees some information. Recipients who use Gmail or a VPN (Virtual Private Network), will see the default image. For the list of components and their supporting ESPs, click here.
Troubleshooting
I have a recipient in Florida seeing content for New York, what’s causing this?
- Ask them to send the IP address in question.
- Are they using a VPN or Proxy? These cause the IP address to change, generating a different location on the map.
- Are they using Gmail or Yahoo? These email clients use caching, so the IP address belongs to Gmail/Yahoo and not the recipient's.
The closest store that is showing is miles away from the recipient
- Ask them to send the IP address in question.
- The location radius’ is showing the nearest location regardless of distance, by default. This can mean that recipients would see a location in a different country if it happens to be the nearest store.
