Personalize your emails by showing different images depending on your key values.
The "Segmented Images" component enables you to show different images depending on specific key values using the recipient's information from a specific data field that the ESP uses to send the email. (e.g. [%FIRSTNAME%]).
Settings Configuration
To set up the “Segmented Image” component:
- Go to "Segmented Image".
- Choose “Segmented Image”.
- Give your newly-created component a unique name.
- Fill out the rest of the details, including:
- Default image
You may change the Default Image by uploading a new image from your computer or choosing one from the File Manager. The Default Image displays when there is no merge tag value or when a value has not been set in the component. - Default click-through URL (optional)
If you wish to have a Click-through URL in the component you must set the default. The Default Click-through URL will be used when there is no merge tag value or a value that has not been set in the component. - Merge tag (specific to your ESP)
Set the Merge Tag value and choose the corresponding image and click-through URL.
The merge tag is the data capture field name used by the ESP to pull content into the email. If, for example, the image is to be segmented by the recipients' gender, insert the ESP-specific merge tag/personalization string for "gender" (e.g. [-GENDER-]).
Each different segment should correspond to a different merge tag value. For example, the value in the email may be "MALE" so you would set that as the value for one image and a corresponding click-through URL. Set up another image and click-through URL for "FEMALE".
- Default image
- Click on the "Update Preview" button to update the content in the preview section.
- Click “Generate Code” to generate the embed code.
- Input your email address under “Email Test” to send yourself an email with the component.
Common Use Cases
Utilize product preferences to determine which header image to show to recipients, based on their product preferences.
Custom Development
The following scenarios can be supported by our team through Custom Development:
Personalized text on Segmented Image background
DynamicMail team can configure an additional layer of personalization, customizing both the background image as well as the text on top of the image, based on segments defined by your database. For example, recipients could be shown their team's jersey with their family name on the back, based on information in your database.
Segmented image swap
Segmented images can be configured specifically for each recipient's time settings. For example, a customized image could serve as a reminder for a registration renewal, based on the exact day and time when the original registration took place. DynamicMail team can configure the component to pull data from a registration database to automatically generate these reminders at the pre-determined time, ahead of expiration.
Recommendations
- Unlike other components, all images do not need to have the same dimensions. If you decide to use images of different dimensions, make sure your email template can handle different image sizes.
- For optimal results, ensure the personalization tag's data file is accurate and complete. If the file is corrupt or incomplete, the data in the email will be as well.
- Within the data file, use only standard characters supported by URL parameters. Please reach out to our DynamicMail team to check support for special characters.
Fallback Behavior
The default image is displayed when there is no personalization tag value or when a value has not been set in the component. For the list of components and their supporting ESPs, click here.
