Please note:
To unlock this capability, you will need to have added DynamicMail to your Optimove package. If you can’t see this feature in your Optimove instance, contact your CSM to find out more.
Make every subscriber feel special by adding a custom field (first name, hometown, etc.) to any image. Use the data capture field from your ESP that can be populated with the relevant data (e.g. [%FIRSTNAME%]).
If, for example, the image is to be personalized with recipients' first names, you should insert the ESP-specific merge tag/personalization string for "first name."
This component can utilize any type of personalization tag value – first name, destination, loyalty points etc.
Settings Configuration
To set up the Personalized Image component:
- Go to "Create Component".
- Choose “Personalized Image”.
- Give your newly created component a unique name.

Images and custom fonts can be used after being uploaded to the File Manager from your computer or via a URL. - Merge tag (specific to your ESP)
- Default text
This text is displayed when the personalization tag is not populated. For example, your ESP doesn't have the first name of a given user. - Click-through URL (optional)
- Placement of the text on the background image
- Click on the "Update Preview" button to update the content in the preview section.
- Click “Generate Code” to generate the embed code.
- Input your email address under “Email Test” to send yourself an email with the component.
Common Use Cases
Great for creating a sense of personalization in loyalty programs (can display points earned), bonuses, special compensation activities, etc.
Since the tag is added to the image, it feels more "hand made" than the usual personalized text, giving your email a personal touch.

Custom Development
The following scenarios can be supported by our team through Custom Development:
Angled Text
The DynamicMail team can build a custom component to display angled text on the image to more closely match the look and feel of the image.
A Personalized Image on a Personalized Background
The DynamicMail team can configure another layer of personalization, customizing both the background image as well as the text on top of the image, based on segments defined by your database. For example, recipients could be shown their team's jersey with their family name on the back, based on the information in your database.
Recommendations
- We recommend a maximum image size of 350x200 pixels to minimize image weight in the email.
- Since the length of personalized text is limited by the dimensions of the background image, we recommend a smaller font size to enable longer text.
- For best results, ensure that the data file from which the personalized text is being pulled from is accurate and complete. If the file is corrupt or incomplete, so will the data in the email.
- Within the data file, use only standard characters supported by URL parameters. Please reach out to our DynamicMail team to check support for special characters.
- Only compatible with Latin-based language characters. Does not currently support Japanese, Chinese, Thai… etc.
Fallback Behavior
The default text is used in case some recipients do not have the relevant field populated in the ESP database. For the list of components and their supporting ESPs, click here.
Troubleshooting
The merge tag text isn’t appearing in the preview on the right, where did it go?
Click on the “Change Text Placement on Image” button and a popup will appear. Make sure that the text of the merge tag is completely enclosed by the grey box. Once this is done, click "Select" and you will see the text appear in the preview.
