When executing campaigns, Optimove decides which customers are eligible to be in a Target Group during the Batch Data Update. In some cases, you may need an internal or third-party system to approve whether customers within that Target Group are eligible for the campaign, for example for compliance reasons or promo activation.
Conditional Execution is a functionality that creates an approval flow between Optimove and your internal systems via API. This is to ensure that your scheduled and real-time campaigns are executed only for customers who are eligible to receive the campaign according to the conditions of your internal systems.
How Does Conditional Execution Work?
Conditional Execution lets you add an approval step to your campaigns, ensuring only eligible customers receive them. You can enable it when creating a campaign in the Campaign Builder, and Optimove will coordinate with your systems to verify customer eligibility before sending the campaign.
This article will cover the following topics:
Conditional Execution for Scheduled Campaigns
- When creating a campaign, check the “Conditional Execution” checkbox under the Execution Details sections.
|| Note: If you don't have the “Conditional Execution” checkbox, reach out to your Customer Success Manager to have this implemented.
Conditional Execution is implemented per Action within your campaign. This means that if you create an A/B Campaign, you can create one Action with Conditional Execution and one without. For example, you can use one Action for a promotional campaign using Conditional Execution, and one Action with no promotion.
- Similar to all other campaigns, your Target Group will be calculated as part of your Batch Data Update of determining which customers should receive the specific campaign.
- Optimove will automatically share the list of customers via API with your systems.
- Your systems validate the list and return to Optimove which customers in the Target Group are eligible.
- Optimove will execute the campaign based on the list returned by your systems, ensuring that ineligible customers do not receive the campaign.

Campaign Status Indicators for scheduled campaigns
In Mission Control, you can add the 'Current Status' column, which indicates the current status of the campaign. Although all campaigns have these indicators, for campaigns using conditional execution, the following indicators’ meanings are unique.
No Customers
Failed
This indicates that Optimove was unable to execute the campaign due to a technical problem with the selected channel or back-end integration.
Edit the campaign to fix the problem and click Run Campaign to retry, or contact your CSM for assistance.
Conditional Execution for Triggered Campaigns
Triggered campaigns are sent in real-time when a customer performs a specific action, like making a purchase or visiting your site. Conditional Execution ensures these campaigns are sent only to customers approved by your systems.
- When creating a triggered campaign, check the “Conditional Execution” checkbox under the Execution Details section for the relevant Action.
|| Note: If you don't have the “Conditional Execution” checkbox, reach out to your Customer Success Manager to have this implemented.
Conditional Execution is applied per Action, so you can use it for specific parts of your campaign, like a promotional offer, while other Actions, like a welcome message, may not require it.
- When a customer completes the trigger event (e.g., adds an item to their cart), Optimove identifies them as eligible for the campaign.
- Optimove checks with your internal or third-party systems to confirm the customer’s eligibility. Your systems review the customer and responds quickly (typically within a few seconds).
- If the customer is approved, Optimove sends the campaign immediately or after a set delay. If not approved, the campaign isn’t sent.
|| Note: Triggered campaigns with Conditional Execution cannot be sent as web page pop-ups.
Use Cases
For campaigns with promotions or bonuses, you may want to ensure that your campaign is sent only to customers for whom the promotion was already activated in your promo/bonus system.
Optimove’s Conditional Execution allows you to ensure that only customers who are eligible for the specific promotion or bonus receive the relevant campaign.
For example, perhaps you want to send an email campaign to 1000 customers, offering a particular promotion (e.g., 10% off the entire store). You will set up the campaign in Optimove so that Optimove will first activate this promotion for the customers in your promotion system. Only after the promotion was successfully activated for these customers, will they receive the campaign.
Optimove will not send the campaign to any customers for whom the promo activation failed (whatever the reason for the failure).
Information about how to integrate your promotion system can be found here.
Conditional Execution can be used to enforce compliance checks within your campaigns. By integrating with a third-party system that manages compliance checks, Conditional Execution can ensure only eligible customers receive campaigns according to regulatory standards.
For instance, Conditional Execution allows you to integrate with systems that validate a player's eligibility based on factors like minimum deposit thresholds, account statuses, or geographical location before delivering promotional offers or bonuses. This ensures that promotions are only executed to customers who comply with regulatory guidelines.
