Open and click rates tell you whether a campaign got attention. They don't tell you what it sold.
Product Metrics fills that gap inside Mission Control. It shows how many targeted customers made a purchase, how much revenue they generated, how many products they bought, and how those results break down across the product attributes your account tracks. Every result is split by campaign Action and Control Group, so you can see how each Action performed against customers who were held back. You don't need an export or a request to your BI team.
This guide will walk you through how to read Product Metrics for a campaign and how Admins set up the product categories it relies on.
"Product" here means whatever your business sells. An e-commerce brand measures products and purchases. A gaming operator measures its product lines, such as Casino and Sport. Your Admin sets these up as product categories, and you switch between them inside Product Metrics.

How to View Product Metrics for a Campaign
Set your Date Range in Mission Control
Product Metrics doesn't have its own date picker. It reports on purchases made within the date range selected at the top of Mission Control.
- Navigate to Mission Control.
- Set the date range at the top of the page to the period you want to analyze.
Open Product Metrics for your Campaign
- Find your campaign in the Campaign List. To look at a specific occurrence, use the chevron next to the campaign to drill into it.
- Click the three dots next to the campaign and select Product Metrics.
- Product Metrics opens over Mission Control. To return to your campaign list, click the X in the top right.
Check the Campaign Details
The header shows Product Metrics and, below it, "Generated by customers that were targeted on" followed by the date range in use. The Campaign Details panel on the left confirms which campaign you're looking at.
- Check the Target Group. You can click through to the Target Group itself.
- Expand each Action (A, B, and so on) to see its Channel, Promos, and Templates. This helps you remember what each Action was when you read the chart.
- Check the Tags, which appear in their own section below the list of Actions.
Select a Product Category
- Open the dropdown at the top of the content area. It lists the product categories your Admin has configured.
- Select the category you want to analyze. Each category has its own KPIs, chart options, and table columns. For example, a gaming operator can switch to Sport to see the same campaign's results for its sports product line.
Until you select a category, Product Metrics shows Select a category with the message "Choose a category above to load KPIs, top sellers, and the sales breakdown." If no categories exist in your account yet, you'll see a Create Product Category button instead, which opens the settings page where categories are created. Only Admins can access that page.
Read the KPIs
Three KPI tiles sit at the top. All three cover the customers this campaign targeted, within the selected date range.
| KPI | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Responders | How many targeted customers made a purchase and generated revenue |
| Revenue | The revenue those purchases generated |
| Products sold | How many products they bought |
Explore the Top-Selling Chart
The stacked bar chart shows what sold. Each bar is split by Action (A, B, and so on) and Control, so you can see which Action sold each item and how much the Control Group bought without receiving the campaign.
- Use the measure selector on the right to choose what the chart plots, such as Item Price, Discount, Number of Items, or Refund Amount. This sets the Y axis.
- Use the grouping selector to choose how bars are grouped, such as Brand, Category, Store Type, or Item Name. The chart title follows your choice. For example, choosing Brand shows Top Selling Brand.

Review and Export the Product Sales Breakdown
Below the chart, the Product Sales Breakdown table lists the products sold during the campaign and their performance metrics, with a count of the products it covers. Its columns come from the selected product category, such as Item Name, Item Price, Brand, Refund Amount, Store Type, and Department.
- Page through the table with Previous, Next, or the page numbers.
- Click Download CSV to export the breakdown and share it or work with it outside Optimove.
How to Set Up a Product Category
A product category represents part of what your business sells and decides which of your attributes drive the Product Metrics KPIs, chart, and exportable table. A gaming operator typically creates one for Casino and one for Sport. An e-commerce brand might use a single category covering products and purchases, or split it by the product areas its teams work in. You can create as many categories as you need.
Open the Configuration Page
- Navigate to Settings → Application Center. The page opens on Product Category, which lists every category in your account with a count.
- Click Create Product Category. If no categories exist yet, the page shows "No product categories yet" with a Create Category button instead
Name your Category
- Enter a Category name. Name it the way your teams already refer to that part of the business, such as "Casino", "Sport", or "Purchases". Campaign owners choose between categories by name alone.
- Optionally, add a description of up to 100 characters.
Set the Top KPIs
- Under Top KPIs, select a field for Revenue.
- Select a field for Total Products sold.
These fill the Revenue and Products sold tiles. The third tile, Responders, has no setting. It's calculated automatically and counts the customers who made a purchase and generated revenue.
Choose What the Chart Can Plot
Under Top Selling Categories, fill in both lists. Each picker is searchable and accepts several attributes at once. The pickers only list attributes that exist in your account.
- Under Categorical values, select up to 5 attributes to group the chart by, such as Store Type, Brand, Category, Department or Item Name. These become the chart's grouping options.
- Under Numerical values, select up to 5 attributes to measure, such as Item Price, Discount, Number of Items or Refund Amount. These become the chart's measures.
Set the Chart Defaults
Under each list, select a Default value. These are the grouping and measure the chart opens with.
Choose the Table and Export Columns
- Under Product Sales Breakdown, select up to 10 Available fields. These become the table columns and the CSV columns.
- Select one of them as the Main value. It leads the table and appears first.
Check the Preview and Save
- Compare the Product Category Live Preview with what you intended.
- Click Create. To discard your changes, click Cancel.
The new category appears in Application Center and immediately in the product category dropdown inside Product Metrics, for every campaign. Categories apply to your whole account, not to individual campaigns.
How Product Metrics Works
Two things decide every number in Product Metrics:
- The campaign's targeted customers: Only purchases by customers this campaign targeted are counted, plus the Control Group, which appears as its own series in the chart. Customers outside the campaign who bought the same product aren't included.
- The Mission Control date range: Product Metrics uses whatever range is set at the top of Mission Control, and the header shows which range it used. Widen the range, and the figures grow. Narrow it, and they shrink.
Does Product Metrics show campaign uplift? No. A purchase counted here was made by a targeted customer during the selected window. That shows an association, not a proven causal effect, which is why the Control Group is shown next to your Actions rather than used to calculate a result.
- For uplift and incremental revenue: use Campaign Metrics in the same campaign menu.
- When comparing with another report: set both to the same period first.
