Pinterest’s Targeting API enables advertisers to create and manage custom audiences using first-party data, such as email addresses and mobile device IDs.
Optimove's integration with Pinterest allows marketers to sync target group data directly with Pinterest, optimizing ad performance through precise targeting. Optimove will automatically sync each campaign’s target group to the client’s Pinterest ad account as a customer list. A new list is created or updated every time a new campaign runs, and for recurring campaigns, a corresponding customer list will be maintained.
Prerequisites
Before you begin, please ensure you have the following:
- An active Optimove account.
- An active Pinterest account.
- Admin access or the necessary permissions within Pinterest to generate API tokens / codes.
Required Attributes for Targeting
Pinterest supports user identification based on the following attributes:
- Email (preferred and most effective)
- Any additional attributes the client wishes to use as a customer ID (must exist in the data)
Setting Up the Integration

Submit the Pinterest Integration Request
Start by completing an "Optimove Integration" request available from this form. This initiates the process of connecting your Pinterest and Optimove accounts.

Provide Required Pinterest Credentials
When submitting the form, include the following details for each brand:
- Client ID / App ID – The unique identifier for their Pinterest ad account
- App Secret Key
- Redirect URI
- Authorization Code – This must be generated by the client using their Pinterest account
Generating an Authorization Code in Pinterest
Follow these steps to generate the Authorization Code within your Pinterest account:

To generate the code, the client should log in to their Pinterest account and visit the following URL:

This will prompt an access screen—clients must click “Give Access” to retrieve the code.

After giving access, copy the code from the URL and provide it to Optimove:

Using this code, Optimove will create a token.
Executing Pinterest Campaigns Using Optimove

Create a Campaign in Optimove
After completing the setup, go to Campaign Builder in Optimove, select Pinterest as the channel, and choose your target audience from the Custom List dropdown:

Audience Sync
Optimove creates audience lists on Pinterest using customer email addresses from the selected target group. These lists will then be available as targetable segments within Pinterest platform.
Disclaimers
- When creating new customer list, a list must include at least 100 Pinterest accounts.
- Each day the campaign runs, the previous customers will be removed and replaced with that day’s customer list.
- No campaign performance metrics are available through this direct Optimove channel integration. Performance should be monitored within Pinterest platform.
- Campaigns created in Optimove, and the corresponding audience segments, may take up to 24 hours to appear and be fully available in Pinterest.
